Yahoo Set To Compete With DraftKings and FanDuel In Daily Fantasy Sports
The daily fantasy sports market is currently dominated by two companies, DraftKings and FanDuel. This is set to change as no less than Yahoo have announced their intention to enter the much prizes daily fantasy sports arena.
The entry of Yahoo could well end the monopoly FanDuel and DraftKings have on this expanding market. Not only do they have the resources to drive traffic to its games it could also spark a war with rivals CBS who are almost certain to follow Yahoo’s entry.
Until now the unclear legal status of daily fantasy sports betting has kept players like Yahoo and CBS on the sidelines but after years of uninterrupted activity by the likes of DraftKings and FanDuel, it is now safe for them to join the party. For punters the entry of new players in the daily fantasy sports market is a major coup as what seems like a monopoly could now be broken.
Players like CBS are set to follow Yahoo and are more than likely willing to manage their legal risks by carefully implementing age restrictions and location based software that will comply with various state laws.
What will be interesting is if we continue to see the aggressive tactics employed by DraftKings and FanDuel increase in an effort to grab as much market share as possible before the behemoth Yahoo enters the market.
