UK Punters Set To Wager Over Billion Pounds On Brazil World Cup
There have not been too many reasons for UK bookmakers to celebrate of late. Whether it be the onslaught on their ever lucrative fixes odds betting terminals or the point of consumption tax, they are under fire from all directions. The ray of light however is set to start on June with the kickoff of the soccer World Cup in Brazil.
The estimates are that over £1 billion will be wagered by punters this summer which means the Brazil World Cup could become the biggest betting frenzy in all sporting history. One of the main reasons for the mind blowing numbers being mentioned is the fact that mobile gambling has reached just about everyone as tablets and smartphones are used by most of us as default devices.
For the bookies the best scenario would be that England stay in the tournament as long as possible keeping fans interested throughout the four and a half week tournament. England are currently 33-1 long shots with Brazil being 3-1 favorites.
As UK’s largest bookmaker William Hill will have plenty reasons to celebrate the expected cash bonanza which is a change from their recent negative forecasts and job cuts they have recently been voicing in the media. William Hill spokeswoman Kate Miller said,” We expect betting turnover of around £200million and we have about 20% of the UK market. It should mean the first £1billion World Cup for the industry. For us it will be like eight Grand Nationals or four ¬Cheltenham Festivals all rolled into one.”
Punters will have the opportunity to bet on just about any aspect of the game ranging from the number of goals to the number of yellow or red cards.
