Sheldon Adelson Purchases The Las Vegas Review Journal For $140 Million
Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson is never from from the spotlight and seems to almost enjoy being the center of controversy. Whether it be his outspoken political views or open support for Republican candidates, Adelson’s massive resources are always been scrutinized as he enjoys playing the puppet master to further promote his agenda. His well funded anti online gambling crusade in the U.S banned is just one example of why so many people find his meddling ways nothing short of an abuse of wealth to influence those in power to further promote his personal business and political agenda.
The last weeks have seen rumors flying as to who purchased the largest daily newspaper in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Review-Journal was reportedly purchased for $140 million by an anonymous buyer but Fortune magazine has learnt that the buyer is no less than the Chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corp. Sheldon Adelson.
The timing of the purchase in interesting has Adelson is hosting the Republican Party debate at his Venetian property. The motives behind the purchase and the efforts to keep it quiet have raised speculation that he did not want to draw attention away from the much hyped debate. However cynics are already concerned as how Adelson will control another important media outlet which will almost certainly be influenced by the new owner’s political and financial agenda.
