PokerStars Gets Sports Betting And Slots License In Spain
Following the UK launch of their sports betting offering, PokerStars have been awarded an online sports betting and slots games provisional license in Spain.
Their new license acquired by the Spanish regulator DGOJ enables PokerStars to expand their existing services. The addition of sports betting is a major move by Amaya to broaden PokerStars reach into other markets besides the traditional casino.
In a statement Southern European operations president of PokerStars Gino Appiotti said,” We’re very pleased to receive provisional licenses to expand our games offering on PokerStars in Spain. Our operation of online poker, live poker and now online casino shows that players trust us to deliver a variety of games in a fun and exciting way. We look forward to building on this by launching games under these new licences.”
Since their acquisition by Amaya Gaming last year PokerStars are set to become a dominant player in many areas of online gaming including the much hyped daily fantasy sports market. We reported on their apparent interest in acquiring daily fantasy sports company DraftDay.
While in the not so distant past online poker and casino were seen as the main revenue streams for gaming companies, sports betting and in particular daily fantasy sports betting are proving to be one of the most sought after commodities in the gaming world.
