New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman Continues Crusade Against DFS Operators
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has followed up on his threats and has filed lawsuits seeking preliminary injunctions against daily fantasy operators DraftKings and FanDuel from operating in the state.
Both DraftKings and FanDuel tried to seek relief in the New York Supreme court to stop Schneiderman’s attempts to block DFS operators taking bets from New York residents.
In response to the filing by Schneiderman FanDuel has suspended DFS contests for New York players. It went further on to state that any player attempting to use VPN software to disguise their real location would be banned from FanDuel and would not receive payouts from winnings.
FanDuel released a statement in which they emphasized that the move is temporary. They said,” We believe that this restriction is temporary and we hope to be able to offer our paid contests to New Yorkers again very soon,”
Rivals DraftKings adopted a more defiant stance and sent emails to the New York players stating that they could continue sending in their entries unhindered, The e-mail stated, “To be clear: Your right to play DFS in New York will remain unchanged unless a New York court decides otherwise.”
Attorney Schneiderman is of the opinion that both DraftKings and FanDuel have been operating illegal sports gambling business in the state of New York are acting in defiance of “state constitution, the penal law and other statutes.
