NBA Enters Joint DFS Venture With PlayON
The growth of daily fantasy sports globally is being noticed by the major sports bodies like the NBA who realize the potential and need for spreading their brand in regions outside their core base of the USA.
As part of this change they have just agreed to launch daily fantasy sports content with sports entertainment company PlayON. In terms of the agreement PlayON will now be the official DFS partners of the league in markets such as Asia. Latin America and Europe.
PlayON who have offices both in London and Dublin are authorized by the UKGC to offer real money DFS contests. They operate in over 100 countries and have bene operating since 2012. The paid real money contests however will only be available in countries that explicitly permit them to do so.
Commenting on the deal the NBA’s President of Global Partnerships Salvatore LaRocca said that their partnership with PlayON will enable them to deepen their engagement with their global audience and bring fans closer to the game.
Founder and CEO of PlayON Killian Jones said that the global reach of the NBA makes it an ideal fit for the daily fantasy world. Although the NBA has an existing partnership with DFS operator FanDuel going back to 2014, FanDuel have only recently begun targeting international markets along with their counterparts DraftKings who are also looking to expand beyond the U.S. market which has being going through turmoil in the last few years.
