Las Vegas Backing The Big Apple In Push For More Casinos
Tomorrow New Yorkers go to the polls with one of the key issues being that of the proposed constitutional amendment that would permit up to 7 casinos. New York is seen as a highly sought after gambling market and many gambling powerhouses would like to get their share of the “Big Apple”.
One of the main groups pushing for the constitutional amendment is that of the New York Jobs Now Committee which is the political action committee behind the push.
In an interesting turn the New York Jobs Now Committee has received financial support from the Las-Vegas based Caesars Entertainment Operating Co. with the sum of $100,000. The idea behind New York Jobs Now is simple as they believe that the proposed casino amendment would be a major boost to the New York economy with both job creation and gambling revenues energizing the economy.
Gov. Cuomo has given the initiative his blessing as it solidifies his belief that by amending the constitution New York would be able to keep gambling revenues within state borders and not lose out to neighboring states.
Some of donors to the New York Now Committee include gambling companies that have existing interests in New York. These include the Aqueduct racino owner Genting New York and Yonkers Racing Corporation as well as state labor unions.
With donations like that from Caesars, the PAC has been able to invest in television commercials and marketing mailing aimed at urging voters to support the “Proposition One” amendment.
