GambleAware Report Is A Wake Up Call For Gambling Industry
A study commissioned by the charity GambleAware has some sharp criticism for the gambling industry. The report says that the gambling industry has to do “much more” to protect their payers from harm as well as to train their staff to encourage safety among their customers.
The report found that staff lacked the training and expertise to advise players on how to gamble safely and minimize risk. One of the main criticisms of the report was that promotional and marketing materials were more clear and obvious than responsible gambling messages which often were not clear at all to customers. The findings were described by GambleAware as a loud “wake up call”. It went on to say that significant investment of both time and effort is required in order to protect gambler from harmful practices. The priority of the industry has to include the well being of its customers according to the report.
Commenting on the report The Gambling Commission said:” This report is the first of its kind, and we welcome the approach taken by the industry to come together and work collaboratively to identify what areas need to be improved. We look forward to the next phase of trialing and evaluation, and to widespread commitment to implement the best practice approaches that emerge.”
