Fantasy Football Sports Startup Mondogoal Partners With FC Barcelona

When it comes to daily fantasy sports betting the names that come to mind are FanDuel and DraftKings. In the U.S. these two powerhouses are exploiting the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006 which excludes sports betting from the definition of illegal gambling as there is an element of skill involved. This market has already reached the stage that we are talking a billion dollar legal market. Between FanDuel and DraftKings alone they are giving away hundreds of millions of dollars annually in cash prizes.

While they have established their dominance in the U.S. there is the European market which is ideally positioned for a DraftKings wannabe. Last year saw the launch of daily fantasy soccer website called Mondogoal. The Isle of Man based Mondogoal is the first daily fantasy sports site dedicated to the most popular sport on the globe. They are licensed in the UK, US, Canada, Ireland and Brazil and have entered into agreements with UK football teams like Manchester City and West Ham United.

Their latest partnership however could well be a game changer for Mondogoal. They have teamed up with one off the most well-known sports brands on the planet in FC Barcelona, who have just become the first La Liga club to partner up with Mondogoal. By teaming up with Barcelona Mondogoal will benefit from gaining direct access to the sports club with the most social media followers on the planet and is synonymous with superstars like Lionel Mesi, Neymar and others.

CEO of Mondogoal Shergul Arshad explained their thinking behind the partnership,” We are able to use their marks and player images as long as it is a collection of player images. Mondogoal will be featured on their social media, webpages, emails and any marketing vehicles that they so choose and they are able to promote to their fans to join the FC Barcelona daily fantasy with Mondogoal. Arshad made it clear that he plans to so what FanDuel did in the U.S. by starting off with small dollar pots and then expanding. Mondogoal have already received over $2 million in a series of strategic investors. They are definitely one startup to watch as they are entering a market which unlike DraftKings and FanDuel is popular in just about every continent.
