DraftKings Acquires DFS Playerbase Of TransferKings
The ongoing woes of DFS powerhouse DraftKings in the US have got it to focus on other markets like the UK which are less legally challenging. DraftKings have been running officially since February this year in the highly competitive UK market but have not set the world on fire there. They are forced to compete with existing sports betting brands which have regulated and legal sports betting on offer unlike the US. In a move to expand and cement their reach in the UK. DraftKings announced the acquisition of the full player database of the free-to-paly DFS platform TransferKings which has only been around since 2015.
The acquisition the player database of TransferKings is seen as strategic for DraftKings and offers an opportunity for players of TransferKings to play for real money contests.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed by the two companies, DraftKings Chief International Officer Jeffrey Hass commented on the deal and said,” We want to expand our audience in the United Kingdom, and this is an effective way to reach an even larger group of passionate fantasy football fans,”
CEO and Co-Founder of TransferKings Hermant Maini was delighted at the acquisition and said: We have built a large base of fantasy football fans and are excited to offer them the opportunity to expand their passion for football and other sports by joining the DraftKings platform.”
The timing of the deal is excellent with the Euro 2016 Championship in full swing. DraftKings has over 7 million players worldwide and around 300,000 of these enter contests related to football. No doubt that the potential growth in this specific area is huge as they expand outside of the US.
