Citigroup To Block All DFS Transactions In Big Apple
Following the announcement that online payment processor Vantiv will be halting processing payments for DFS operators DraftKings and FanDuel, the financial services institution Citigroup has announced it will be blocking DFS transactions in New York.
Citigroup confirmed to Bloomberg thye will be blocking transactions in New York until the legal situation is cleared up in the Big Apple. In response FanDuel told the Consumerist that they were,” unaware of Citigroup’s attempts to prohibit their New York based customers from playing fantasy sports but we are grateful that there are various payment options and companies that allow their customers to make their own decision about what fantasy sports they can play. We remain committed to providing sports fans the opportunity to play fantasy while we pursue legal and legislative action to clarify the law.”
DraftKings at the time of the article were not commenting and said they may issue a statement at a later stage. As it stands the legal battle in New York is ongoing and both DraftKings and FanDuel continue to operate until the legal process plays out to completion.
