Online Bookies Offline In Gibraltar Due To Fuel Tank Explosion
Gibraltar is one of the offshore online betting havens and houses many top UK bookmakers like William Hill, Ladbrokes and Betfred. There are reports of massive power outages due to a fuel tank explosion which has left most bookmakers offline on one of their busiest weekends.
The reports are still early but sources say that the building on fire houses many of the top online bookies. As we reported in previous articles the Rock is highly dependent on offshore online gambling operators which employ a large percentage of the working population. The bookmakers known to be affected are William Hill, Ladbrokes and Betfred. Apparently BetVictor is benefitting from the power outage as they are the only online company known to have their own backup generator.
William Hill tweeted,” Please be aware that all services are currently down. We are aware of the issue and we are working extremely hard to fix it. We do apologise.”The other affected bookie Betfred stated,” We are working hard to resolve this issue and will update all customers once resolved.”
We will update our readers of any further developments. One can only sympathize with the offshore bookmakers who are facing unprecedented tax rises and point of consumption tax. The timing of the outage could not come at a worse time being Easter Weekend.
