US Gambling Revenues Reach $66.3 Billion In 2013

In a sign that the US economy is slowly recovering, a new report by Rubin Browns shows that commercial and tribal casinos generated $66.3 billion in revenues for 2013. This is an increase of 1.6% from the $65.24 in 2012. The report collected data from over 1000 commercial casinos as well as tribal casinos in 39 states. A major factor in increased revenues are states expanding their markets as well as the growing online gaming market. The state of Nevada generated the highest amount of revenues with $11.14 billion. Atlantic City follows with slightly decreased revenues of $2.93 billion for 2013. New Jersey as a state recorded a 3.7 percent decline in revenues. The star performer in growth was the state of Ohio who saw a massive 149.1 percent spike to generate $1.07 billion. This was due to the additional three new racinos and a new casino. Maryland performed well with a 98.2 percent increase in revenue which was credited to the state legalizing gaming tables. One of the findings of the report was that land casinos need to learn from Las Vegas who are marketing their casinos as entertainment destinations especially for the younger...

Minnesota Governor Gives Reprieve To Online Lottery Scratchcards

The debate over online gambling expansion in the US has reached the Minnesota Lottery who while not offer internet gambling, started a precedent in February with selling online scratch cards. Online playing options are vital for any lottery looking to attract the younger generation who interact almost exclusively with their smartphones and tablet devices. This has got many convenience store owners concerned as they rely on customers purchasing the paper scratchies as part of an impulse buy along with their carton of milk. State legislators accused the Minnesota Lottery of overstepping their mandate and two weeks ago approved a bill which would have banned the lottery from selling any products online except those of the lottery draw tickets. At the time the legislators were pleased with themselves efforts and even prompted Rep. Greg Davids to say that they (the legislators) have “pinned the lottery’s ears back.” Yesterday Gov. Mark Dayton stepped in at the 90th minute and vetoed the bill that would have banned the sale of online scratch card sales. Dayton explained his actions by stating that he believed that the Minnesota Lottery were acting within their parameters as they needed to keep up with the times and modernize their operations. In terms of the Bill that the legislators passed two weeks ago the lottery would have had until October to shutdown online sales. As it stands the Governor has got the power until the next legislative...

Much was said that this could turn hundreds of millions of their users into real money gambling users while making Facebook a global casino players. Well it seems that all the theories by anti-gambling proponents that millions of gambling addicts will be created has turned out not to be the case. Almost two years after its launch Gamesys has removed Bingo & Slots Friendzy from Facebook without too much explanation. According to reports in eGR account holders received an email stating that they had until Wednesday night until the app was removed. Anyone looking for the app will find it is unavailable. Players were also told via email that they would have a chance to withdraw their funds before the deadline. Efforts to get further information on this sudden take-down were fruitless as Gamesys are remaining quiet as of now. Currently we can only speculatie as to the motives behind the move but his development could have a far–reaching impact on real money gaming on social networks like...
