Delaware Closer to Real Money Gambling With Phase One Launch

Anyone who spends time playing social casino games knows how popular they are. Facebook users are well aware that a lot of their top games are casino related. While only a year ago all of these games available in the free-to-play mode only. This all changed when Facebook crossed the Rubicon to start offering real money gambling to its users in the UK. Since then the last year has seen a number of gaming companies following suite. The idea of offering online players identical free-to-play versions of slots or poker games is simple. Once familiarizing the with the free versions, the hope is that when there is a real money game on offer the ability to convert the players to the real cash games is that much easier. This is exactly what is happening in the US state of Delaware. The US state of Delaware is moving closer to becoming the first state that will offer a full suite of real money online casino games by the end of October. Delaware made history when Gov. Jack A. Markell signed the House Bull 333 on June 28, 2012. As of today phase one of iGaming kicks off with the launch of free-to-play online gambling games. Players can access these virtual games via the state’s casinos’ websites which include Dover Downs, Harrington Raceway and Casino and Delaware Park. Players will be re-directed to the Facebook-linked page of DoubleDown Casino. The online games on offer include poker, bingo, roulette and blackjack. The website will be available through Facebook with IGT Interactive providing the games with their DoubleDown Casino Slots and Poker platform. Secretary of Finance Thomas Cook stated that players will have to be over 21 years of age to log onto the gaming. The real money games to be offered in October will be provided by the Scientific Games International-888 Holdings platform. These real money games will then be marketed and branded under Delaware’s state casinos. Initially the contact is for five years with extension options. Cook also said,” This first phase will allow us to really get the players acclimated to the virtual world in a legalized environment.” Online gambling is seen as vital to attracting the younger audience who utilize mobile devices as a matter of routine. Chief operating officer of Dover Downs Casino, Ed Sutor believes that the addition of internet gambling is vital to attract more young patrons to the land casinos. Anyone doubting the massive amounts of cash forked out by the gaming giants like IGT with their Double Down Interactive acquisition for $500 million and Caesars with their Playtika acquisition are being silenced. These social...

Strip Club To Open In Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal Casino

The axis of evil or should we say pleasure is that of gambling, alcohol and adult entertainment. This is the thinking behind the opening of an iconic New York Strip club, Scores inside the famous Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort next month. With declining revenues and visitors, the new strip club is seen as the ultimate marketing plan which will send the patrons flocking back to the casinos. Bob Gans, the Trump Taj Mahal’s managing partners summed up their thinking behind the new venture,” We feel this is the third leg of the Atlantic City triangle: gambling, alcohol and adult entertainment.” Casino revenues have dropped significantly in the last seven years from about $5.2 billion to $3 billion with job losses to add to the problem. While the idea of a strip club at a casino resort may seem racy, Atlantic City has a long history of being an adult playground as anyone watching the television hit Boardwalk Empire knows. The figures involved are big with Gans investing $25 million in Scores which will open on Sept. 12. The new strip club will include 11 stripper poles, ultra-VIP rooms for celebrities and high-rollers plus an additional five private VIP rooms. Entry prices are set to be between $10- $30. For those short of cash there is the credit option with the club’s Diamond Dollars which can be charged to your credit card but with a 20% markup. For those wondering, the services to be offered at Scores only include partial nudity with lap dances being prohibited. Gans believes that with over 30 million people patronizing Atlantic Casinos, the Scores Brand will fit it perfectly as it teams up with the famous Trump brand which always seems to come up...

Gambling Debt Rumored To Have Affected “Battle of the Sexes” Tennis Match

One of the most memorable moments in sports has got to be the legendary tennis match in 1973 between Billy Jean King and Bobby Riggs which was dubbed the “battle of the sexes”. It has now emerged that there might be more than meets the eye to this 1973 tennis match that to this day holds the record for the highest attendance ever at a tennis match with over 30,472 fans watching the spectacle at the Houston Astrodome. As we all know Riggs was defeated in what many expected to be a cakewalk. And till this day there have been rumors and speculation of exactly what transpired on that historic day. One of the latest rumors is something out of a Francis Coppola novel as the claim is that Riggs who was 55 at the time purposely lost the match to King who was 29 in order to settle a $100,000 gambling debt with the mob. The theory is that Riggs came up with the scheme early on when he defeated the women’s No.1 player Margaret Court four months earlier. The source for this juicy rumor comes from Hal Shaw who worked at the time as an assistant golf instructor at the Palma Golf Club in Florida. He claims to have overheard a discussion between the Florida mob boss Santo Trafficante Jr. and New Orleans mob boss Carlos Marcello late one night in a club. When asked why he waited for so long to come forward, Shaw said that he wanted to get it off his chest after 40 years of fear. Riggs of course denied any fishy business before he died in 1995 and was famously quoted as saying,” ‘People said I was tanking, but Billie Jean beat me fair and square. I tried as hard as I could, but I made the classic mistake of overestimating myself and underestimating Billie Jean King.” To add fuel to the fire Riggs’ son Larry told ESPN that his father did indeed know Mafia figures and that it was “possible” that they discussed fixing the match. However he claims his father would have done so not to repay a gambling debt but rather to plan a rematch and a bigger...

Legalizing Online Poker With Economic Rationale Instead Of Philosophy

The case of Lawrence DiCristina who ran a poker game from his warehouse in Staten Island made headlines in the gambling world. Basically the Feds initially wanted to prosecute him for violating the Federal law but Judge Jack Weinstein at the time found that no federal law was violated as poker was a game of skill. All was good until this point with pro-poker lobbyists. However in a recent ruling the 2nd Circuit Judge Chester Straub overturned Weinstein’s ruling and has DiCristina possibly facing up to 10 years in prison. The debate over whether poker is a game of skill or chance is an intriguing one. Poker Players Alliance John Pappas is a firm believer that poker is a game of skill and therefore should enjoy a different status than other illegal forms of gambling,” Ample academic studies and judicial rulings at the state and federal level have concluded that poker is indeed a game of skill. Period. The PPA will continue to advocate for a clear, federal definition of gambling as a game predominated by chance, thus preserving the right of Americans to play this great game of skill.” With legal precedents behind them pro poker supports have not hesitated in using the argument of poker being a skill in promoting the legalization on a national level. Another twist in the story comes with an interview on Bloomberg TV with the founder of Ultimate Gaming,Tom Breitling who as we reported runs the only current legal online poker site in the US. He basically told poker supporters to concentrate on the economic argument and not the philosophical debate of what a game of skill is. In other words it is all about the bottom line for the politicians. If they are convinced that their state coffers will be filled with poker earnings then they are more than likely to be persuaded in adopting legislation to legalize it. Another aspect to factor in is the growing popularity of fantasy sports betting. As we discussed many of these websites are filling a gap for online gamblers in the US who are still restricted from indulging in Poker. These sports betting sites also are quick to use the rationale that their fantasy betting relies more on skill and therefore still manage to avoid legal problems with online gambling regulations. Whichever side of the debate you choose to adopt, the old saying of “money talks” is what will win over the politicians in the US and other parts of the globe where sources of revenues are in desperate...
