Predicting Potential Gambling Addicts With Featurespace Technology

Believe it or not gambling addiction is the last thing that any casino wants. Besides being a serious social threat, gambling addicts can have a devastating effect on both internet and land gaming houses. The issue of addition has always being around but with the growing global economic slowdown, more people are getting desperate to earn a quick buck via slots, sports betting or even the lottery. We discussed the growing controversy of the high street betting shops where Fixed Odds Betting Terminals have come under the spotlight. These are just one example of how dangerous high speed gambling machines can be to those who are prone to addiction. While most of us are able to enjoy a responsible flutter there is a percentage of players who show warning signs that indicate potential future problems. FeatureSpace is a company founded in 2005 which could well assist in preventing potential gambling addicts. In short they claim to “predict the future”. They are leaders in what is termed adaptive behavioral analytics which means that they use advanced algorithms to better understand the way players behave in real time. This type of service is not a luxury but rather a necessity for both gaming companies and government research groups as there are estimates that over one in 20 iPhone users utilize sports betting apps. It is no secret that gaming companies are constantly monitoring players spending habits down to the minutest details. Featurespace is able to utilize this data to identify any irregular or risky behavior from the individual. CEO of Feature space David Excell explained how they are able to assist the gaming industry,” As we worked with the gaming industry, we know a lot of the companies really well, it was looking at one aspect of fraud – first party fraud – which is where a customer will charge back a transaction and say “well I didn’t make that”, though sometimes they actually did make that transaction but they may have been spending a lot more than they wanted to.” From a pure business point of view, no gaming company can afford to be branded as being responsible for creating gambling addicts. Besides the damage to their brand they have a vested interest in maintain their customer base on a long term basis. It does them no good for a problem gamble to blow all their cash in a short time and never return to the casino. Excell elaborated on the issue,” If you can help that player have long term sustainable activity, then over the long term that customer will be of more value to you than if they...

RealNetworks Strengthen Social Casino Reach With Slingo Acquisition

Only two days ago we reported on the social gaming Casual Connect Conference in San Francisco that is underway. It is no surprise that gaming houses like RealNetworks have used it as a platform to unveil new products and acquisitions. Their announcement that they intend offering a $100,000 sweepstakes prize in their GameHouse Casino Plus product is groundbreaking as it is one of the few opportunities that U.S. online players get to play for real cash. Today they dropped another bombshell by announcing that they intend buying the iconic Slingo Inc. for $15.6 million. Slingo is one of those cult games that has been around for 17 years. Its popularity lies in the fact that it incorporates two gaming favorites in one namely bingo and slots. The purchase price seems to be quite a bargain as Slingo brings with it an established loyal player base. Another fascinating piece of data from GamesBeat is the fact that since its creation players have spent over $1 billion and have downloaded over tens of millions of Slingo games. While we seem to mention Zynga on a daily basis, we cannot but point out another potential blow to the San Francisco based gaming giant. Zynga boasts over 4.5 million MAU’s on Facebook with its own customized version of Slingo. The news of RealNetworks encroaching on another Zynga product will have their executives asking when will the punishment end? RealNetworks CEO Robert Glaser was delighted with their newest addition,” We are thrilled to have acquired Slingo, one of the most beloved products and brands in social casino gaming. We look forward to bringing Slingo – an extremely fun combination of slots and bingo – to even more fans around the world. Our team is hard at work creating even more compelling new versions of Slingo for Facebook, iPhone, iPad and Android.” Slingo CEO Rich Roberts returned the compliment by saying,” Slingo has been a successful, compelling product on every major games platform over the past 15 years. By joining forces with RealNetworks, we look forward to taking Slingo to the next level. We’re thrilled to be joining RealNetworks’ GameHouse division.” The saying “fortune favors the brave” could certainly apply to RealNetworks who seem to be determined to grow both their social casino and real money gaming options in a market where others are treading...
