Son Cleared of Threatening Father After Lottery Win

The age old question if money can buy happiness is always intriguing and anyone who gambles at a casino or on a lottery could find themselves asking this exact question after a big win. A good example of this is the story of a syndicate of bus drivers who won £38 million last March. In the EuroMillions lottery. You would think that after winning over £3.1 million each, the winner’s lives and those of their families would take a turn for the better. Well think again as one of the winners Alex Robertson and his son William Robertson 35 have found out. The trouble started when the William the son found out that his father had no intentions of sharing his £3.1 million jackpot. He even claimed that his father gave him only 200 cigarettes and not a penny of the jackpot win. It reached the point that William was arrested after his father claimed he had received threatening texts. The case got to court yesterday at the Northampton Magistrates’ Court where the son William was charged with harassment. However the case was thrown out due to the fact that the father Alex failed to appear in court and decided to stay in the Spanish resort of Benidorm where he lives. The chairman of the bench Angus Ferris wasted no time in dismissing the case and time will tell if this family can utilize their lucky win for something positive and not let it ”rip” the family apart as claimed by one of Alex’ sons Alex...

Online And Mobile Gambling Booming In UK

Online gambling and mobile gambling in particular has never been so popular in the UK as it is now. In a report published in Gaming Sector Report and commissioned by search engine marketing company Greenlight, this trend was confirmed as it found that over $4 billion is spent on online gambling which is an increase of 80% from that of 2008. A large reason for this steady growth is without a doubt the proliferation of mobile devices and such as tablets and smartphones. Jokes aside the online gambling world owes a lot to the Apple with tits iPhone launch in 2007 as this started the mobile revolution which in essence means that all of us can walk around with portable casinos in our pockets. Smartphones are no longer the luxury of a few but are readily available for the masses. This would explain why Britain’s largest bookmaker William Hill has had over 1 million downloads of their app which was only launched 18 months ago. Sports betting for them has benefited the most from mobile gambling as over 38% of sports bets were place on mobile devices in the app’s first year. Another interesting finding was the search engine queries for gambling related keywords. Queries like “bingo”, “poker”, “casino” and “sports betting” reached 1.5 million in June but dropped to 995,830 in July. The most queried keywords were “casino” with 35%, “Sports betting” with 31%, “Bingo” 18% and poker with 16%. The transition from online gambling to mobile gambling is happening at a rapid pace. There is no large gaming operator that is not making mobile gaming their priority as this is the way most of us will conduct our online activities in the...

Bwin.party Expecting Full Year Revenue Drop Of Up To 17%

Bwin.party has announced that they are expecting full-year revenues to fall up to 17%. While this may sound bad, they have adopted the approach of cutting their losses in less profitable markets and focusing on markets that can yield them higher quality players. One of the main focuses of Bwin.party is that of the US online gambling market which as we reported will see Bwin.party partner up with ventures in Nevada and in New Jersey where they plan to launch real money poker and casino games. Some of the reasons for their revenues drop are problematic markets like Greece which was hit hard by the decision of internet service provider’s unexpectedly blocking online gambling sites. Competition in the bingo market in Italy and Britain were also a reason for the drop. As we said Bwin.party is looking to make their business model a lean and mean machine and by sacrificing expanding into difficult markets has naturally led to less revenues. Chief executive Norbert Teufelberger explained that the results were expected to drop as a result of the company’s new business model,” This was always going to be a major year of transition for us.. however, our performance and revenue is behind where we expected it to be at this point.” Analysts like Ivor Jones of Numis seemed to understand that the results merely represent a business in transition and not in decline. He said,” These forecast downgrades reflect the unpredictability of a business in transition, and of regulatory action.” He also retained his recommendation of ‘buy” for the stock reflecting his belief that bwin.party will show growth in the US and other markets. The coming World Cup in 2014 is also seen as a growth opportunity for gaming companies like bwin.party.Cost cutting is also set to add to revenues with over €70 million expected this year. The half-year dividend was increased by 5% to 1.80 pence per...

Win Strengthening Position In Social Casino Gaming Arena

Social casino games have become one of the most popular overall games played by users on mobile or on social networks. While the bigger names like Zynga,Double Down Casino and Playtika  are some of the more dominant names, there are plenty of smaller gaming companies that are making their presence felt. In an industry worth over $1.7 billion per year, free-to-play casino games are a hot area for developers. While $1.7 billion is no small change the real incentive behind many of these social casino games is to wait until real money online gambling becomes legal in more parts of the globe and then with a simple switch these games could reach billions. One such startup to watch is that of the Gibraltar and Tel-Aviv based social gaming company called Win. They have only been around a year but already have serious partners backing them up. They have over $50 million in capital from the real money gambling firm Bwin.party. They just announced the launch of their new Garfield & Friends slot machine game for Facebook and iOS. This follows their popular Slots Craze games that boasts over 1 million installations sine its last March launch. This latest Garfield licence is another addition to Win’s impressive portfolio which includes favorites like Wizard of OZ, Count Dracula, Sherlock Holmes and Casper the Friendly Ghost. Win was founded in March 2012 by Chief executive Barak Rabinowitz with funding of Bwin.party. This is not the only partnership that Bwin.party has with popular brands as they already offer real money games from the Zynga Brand to UK players. Their expertise and knowledge of the field is exactly what Win needs, Rabinowitz echoed this thinking,” We have the backing of an online gambling company, and a big one at that. Bwin has a lot of expertise in making and marketing games.” Win boasts over 1 million installs of their Slots Craze of which 400,000 are on Facebook and 600,000 are in iOS. Win also has access to a lot of manpower as Bwin.party also acquired a Ukrainian development house which is at the disposal of Win.While Win have their work cut out for them if they wish to catch up to the big boys, they look like they have all the financial and technical backup to do so. We look forward to following their...
